First chakra or energy centre is located between the sexual organs and anus of both sexes, and is called the root chakra, the colour is red and its main function is embodiment.
When energy is flowing through this centre unhindered or unblocked the person experiences down to earth and grounded, stable, safe, practical, courageous, loving of life and nature, able to take risks, comfortable in their body and acceptance of limitations, able to let go, embodied, structured and loyal.

When a person has blockages of this energy they may feel any of the following, Rigidity, fear of change, stubbornness, laziness, lack of confidence, a tendency to hoard, a dislike of things natural such as getting dirty or wet, naked, over-excited, over attachment, materialism, a dislike of own body.

Consequently this may lead to the manifestation of physical signs and symptoms such as,
A tendency towards illness, haemorrhoids, constipation, sciatica, back pain, knee problems, obesity and weight problems, greed, obsessive demands on others, phobia, obsessive and addictive behaviour (drugs, alcohol, etc.).
